All Climate One events are produced In alignment with the goals of The Commonwealth Club, the nation's oldest and largest public affairs forum and Climate One’s host organization.



Reporting to the Executive Producer, the Director of Events and Operations serves as Climate One’s principal producer of 35-live events a year. The Director is responsible for all event logistics, including attendee experiences before, during, and after events. The Director oversees event audio and video operations including managing a team of freelance videographers.

The Director is responsible for the Climate One experience, monitoring audience impact, and collaborating with Commonwealth Club box office staff.

The Director also serves as Executive Assistant to the Executive Producer and handles a wide range of administrative and operational responsibilities, and special initiatives in support of the four-person Climate One team.

Status: Salaried, Exempt
Schedule: Full time; events Monday-Thursday evenings 35-40 times a year

  • Manage all aspects of event logistics (before, during and after events).

    • Create event pages on Eventbrite ticketing system.

    • Work with facilities team to configure auditorium seating, Climate One signage and post-event reception.

    • Ensure a smooth and engaging audience experience from the time people walk in the door through the stage program and wine and cheese reception afterward.

    • Ensure a smooth speaker experience with Green Room setup and additional speaker logistics.

    • Direct the event flow so that it equally meets the expectations of people in the room and the media audience.

    • Coordinate receptions and wine sales with Commonwealth Club staff.

    • Book and manage offsite auditoriums and hotel rooms for occasional events not held at The Commonwealth Club.

  • Manage visitor experience and monitor audience impact.

    • Direct Commonwealth Club box office staff on guest check-in procedure during offsite events.

    • Coordinate with Commonwealth Club staff on authors who sign books at events.

    • Working with the Director of Audience Engagement, track and evaluate event success metrics such as total number of attendees, engagement at receptions, diversity of speakers on stage and audience attendees.

  • Serve as Executive Assistant to the Executive Producer.

    • Collect and electronically store all speaker release forms.

    • Process invoices from freelancers and other contractors.

    • Mail notes of gratitude from Executive Producer to each speaker within 48-hours of each event.

    • Provide project management for special program initiatives.

    • Other administrative duties as assigned.



  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Ability to smoothly integrate the interconnected human and facilities aspects of event production to deliver a high-impact moment for event attendees, speakers, and media audience.


Work Experience:

Minimum of four years of experience in event/program or conference planning and production, with at least two years of management, ideally in energy, food, water, science, transportation or other climate-related issue areas.


Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Superb organizational skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to juggle tasks with different time horizons; a self-driven attention to detail.

  • The ability to work effectively independently with limited direction and with others as part of a team with all types of people, including donors, volunteers, and a diverse group of staff.

  • Ability to work well under pressure and to deadline, and to maintain utmost discretion and professionalism.

  • Excellent clerical and computer skills, including advanced proficiency Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive and Eventbrite. Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud including PhotoShop and InDesign a plus.

  • Experience using customer relationship management software.

  • Proven event planning or project management skills; ability to manage details as well as to maintain total project overview.

  • Experience working with audio engineers, stage crew, and other people who make a live event happen.

  • Basic understanding of the interconnected systems – energy, food, water, transportation – that define the climate challenge.

  • CMP Certification a big plus.
