Climate One is the premier platform for the conversation about the climate emergency. Through a podcast, national radio show, and live convenings for thought leaders and concerned members of the public, Climate One creates opportunities for dialogue and inspires a more complete understanding of the current crisis.

Founded in 2007 as a live program based at The Commonwealth Club of California, a non-profit and non-partisan public forum, Climate One has evolved into a multi-platform thought leader dialogue. In response to the pandemic, Climate One pivoted entirely to digital programming, initiating new creative approaches, extending national and international coverage, and growing online audiences.  To maximize the unique opportunities inherent in this remarkable time, Climate One expanded its editorial staff and is now poised to enhance the management, marketing and fundraising team with the overarching aim of continuing to build the platform’s impact.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Climate One seeks a highly collaborative, entrepreneurial leader who has experience executing and supporting the implementation of existing and new initiatives; managing marketing and fundraising activities; and building and formalizing internal systems, processes and procedures for maximum efficiency and flexibility. The Managing Director will be responsible for stewarding Climate One’s sustained growth and increased organizational capacity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with the Executive Producer to focus on executing a seamless brand across media platforms, public programs and revenue generating activities.

  • Support and manage marketing, audience engagement, and fundraising along with other key initiatives and ensure that success metrics are established, monitored, and achieved.

  • Build, manage, and develop a small team with expertise in fundraising and marketing, in addition to overseeing external contributors and contracts with consultants.

  • Manage special projects including Climate One’s annual student scholarship award and the Stephen Schneider Award for Outstanding Climate Science Communication.

  • Develop strategic alliances and partnerships, in collaboration with the Executive Producer, with a focus on both internal and external stakeholders and outside media organizations.

  • Manage the day-to-day operations in collaboration with the senior management team at Climate One and key partners at The Commonwealth Club that provide financial, human resources and operational expertise and support.

  • Create and sustain an effective organizational structure that supports efforts to attract, hire and retain diverse and talented staff.

  • Build and maintain effective, timely communication with the Executive Producer and team leaders, keeping them fully informed of the organization’s operations, fiscal health, progress on strategic initiatives, including audience development and fundraising efforts. 


PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five-to-seven years of experience managing strategic growth-oriented initiatives, including efforts to increase audience and revenue and expand operations in a non-profit or for-profit organization ideally in the media sector.

  • Ability to share the passion for Climate One’s influence in a crowded and dynamic market,  build trusting relationships and leverage the strengths of a visionary leader/founder.

  • Knowledge and experience conceptualizing multiplatform marketing strategies, implementing tactics, and measuring impact.

  • Knowledge and experience with fundraising efforts involving individual and institutional donors, stewarding relationships, and meeting income goals.

  • Impact oriented, data-driven management approach based on experience working closely with leadership and staff to translate broad strategies into financial, operational, and programmatic goals and measurable objectives.

  • Ability to respond to, brainstorm and solve complex problems or challenges that affect Climate One’s ability to meet its goals and objectives. 

  • Emphasis on using technology to enhance operations.

COMPENSATION:

A competitive salary and full health, dental and vision benefits with a 4% employer match of the 403(b) plan.
