Ambassador Todd Stern

United States Special Envoy for Climate Change

Todd Stern believes that ardent ambition is a critical component of any climate agreement. As the Special Envoy for Climate Change at the State Department, Stern plays a central role in developing the U.S. international policy on climate and acts as the President’s chief climate negotiator. Before joining the Obama Administration he was a Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress, where he focused on climate change and environmental issues.

Stern is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. From 1997 to 1999, he coordinated the Administration’s initiative on global climate change, acting as the senior White House negotiator at the Kyoto and Buenos Aires negotiations.
