Carroll Fife has redefined leadership in Oakland since taking office in 2021, bridging the gap between grassroots activism and legislative power to champion equity and human rights. A founding member of Moms for Housing and a longtime community organizer, she has spearheaded transformative victories over the last six years, including the passage of Measure Q to authorize 13,000 low-income housing units and Measure U for $350 million in affordable housing funding. Her legislative record is marked by a fierce commitment to tenant protections helping enact some of the strongest laws in California and economic justice through the co-introduction of Measure T, which modernized Oakland's business tax to support small enterprises. Beyond housing, Councilmember Fife has led initiatives to revitalize West Oakland, from historic economic investments, a Community-led Traffic Safety Pilot Program to bringing the Oakland Ballers to Raimondi Park. Her unwavering advocacy for reimagining public safety and securing resources for the unhoused continues to shape a more vibrant, equitable future for all Oaklanders.
Councilmember Fife currently chairs the City Council’s Life Enrichment Committee and serves on the Rules and Legislation, Public Safety, Community and Economic Development committees. Her external obligations include representing the City of Oakland on the Alameda County Transportation Commission, the Association of Bay Area Governments, and the Alameda County-Oakland Community Action Partnership (AC-OCAP).
