Irène P. Mathieu

Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, University of Virginia

Dr. Irène P. Mathieu is a writer and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Virginia, where she practices general pediatrics, teaches, and conducts public health research. She is a member of the Virginia Clinicians for Climate Action steering committee and has worked on numerous climate justice advocacy campaigns. 

Dr. Mathieu also serves as Assistant Director of Programs in Health Humanities in UVA's Center for Health Humanities and Ethics and is on the Journal of General Internal Medicine's editorial board. The author of four poetry collections — milk tongue, Grand Marronage, orogeny, and the galaxy of origins — she has received fellowships from Fulbright, Callaloo, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.
