Jack Matthews

Former Mayor, San Mateo

[The Sierra Club has] come to the conclusion that supporting transit-oriented development is the right thing to do — development along transit corridors, encouraging people to get out of their cars and to use bicycles and walk. [It’s] been very successful for us in terms of infill development in San Mateo.

As the Former Mayor of San Mateo, Jack Matthews oversaw the town and City Council for two terms. He rose from his prior position as City Council member, to which he was elected in 2003. Matthews has resided in San Mateo since 1974, serving on the Planning Commission for eight years and on the Citizen's Advisory Committee for the Transportation Corridor.
