Jane Lubchenco believes in the necessity of clear communication when it comes to scientific discoveries. As the Administrator for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Lubchenco worked to keep citizens informed of the changing environment around them. From daily weather forecasts to fisheries management, the NOAA’s products and services support economic vitality. Lubchenco was the first woman appointed NOAA administrator. Lubchenco is one of the most highly cited ecologists in the world, and eight of her publications are recognized as “Science Citation Classics.”

Currently Lubchenco teaches and does research at Oregon State University as the university's Distinguished Professor and Advisor in Marine Studies.

Lubchenco has received numerous awards including a MacArthur “genius” award. Lubchenco received her B.A. in Biology from Colorado College, her M.S. in Zoology from the University of Washington, and her Ph.D. in ecology from Harvard University.

Dr. Jane Lubchenco is the recipient of the 2014 Stephen Schneider Award for Outstanding Climate Communication.
