John Bartman
Illinois farmer
John Bartman is a fifth generation Illinois farmer whose family homesteaded in 1846. His farm is located in Marengo, Illinois and he farms 850 acres in McHenry and Boone Counties. He follows regenerative farming methods while growing corn, soybeans, winter wheat, cereal rye, sweetcorn, and other crops.
John grew up in the Middle of the Farm Crisis of the 1980’s and he was told early, in his life, he could not farm because the economics of farming. When John’s father suffered a major heart attack in 2012, John decided he had to take over the farm. He is a third generation Farm Bureau member and served ten years as a director of the McHenry County Farm Bureau.
