Saikat Chakrabarti

President, New Consensus

Saikat Chakrabarti is a Democratic candidate running to fill Nancy Pelosi's seat in California's 11th District. He is President of New Consensus, a think tank that focuses on climate and economic policy, where he has helped develop the Mission for America - a comprehensive, detailed plan to build a clean economy that creates prosperity for all. The Mission for America comprises over 20 chapters that detail how, exactly, to remove all emissions from every sector of our economy as well as the institutions and political strategy to get it done.

Born in Fort Worth, Texas, to immigrant parents from India, Saikat moved to San Francisco after college when he was 23 years old, started his own company, and later became the second engineer at Stripe. He left the tech industry to serve as Director of Organizing Technology on Bernie Sanders' 2016 presidential campaign, where he built tools that powered Bernie’s grassroots movement.

Saikat co-founded Justice Democrats to recruit a new generation of leaders to Congress who would take no corporate money — including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. He ran her upset campaign, and then served as her first Chief of Staff in Congress where he led the creation of the Green New Deal.

The political establishment has failed to act on the cost of living crisis, inequality, and the climate emergency. Saikat believes San Francisco can lead the way on affordability, taking on corporate power, and building a society that works for all, not just a wealthy few.
