Susan Leal

Former General Manager, San Francisco Public Utilities Commission

Susan Leal believes that water conservation outreach to those who pay the water bills leads to less water being used. As the former General Manager of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, Leal led the charge for a dramatic upgrade of the Bay Area’s seismically unsafe water system and San Francisco’s outdated wastewater system. In this role, she drew from her prior experience serving as Treasurer of the City and sitting on the Board of Supervisors. She now uses this expertise as Chief Strategy Officer for the Water in Americas at AECOM.

Leal is a member of the advisory board of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley, where she also received her undergraduate and law degrees.
